Pear Audio Analogue – Cornet 1

The Cornet 1 and Cornet 2 tonearms, designed by Tom Fletcher, represent the triumphant culmination of the continuous development of his “Space Arm”, renowned for its superior performance.

Unipivot tonearms are typically constructed with the pivot immersed in a silicone bath. The problem with this design is that silicone takes time to settle, and therefore the tone of the tonearm can change during playing. Many unipivot systems utilize eccentric counterweights to ensure a correct tracking angle.

The Cornet Unipivot design employs a different method to ensure the best possible tracking angle: using a specially developed material that, due to its viscous properties, does not flow and requires no settling time. A high-tech carbon fiber tube with longitudinally aligned fibers, not wrapped around the arm, significantly increases the arm’s stability, resonance control, and rigidity.

The Cornet tonearms also feature an unusual cartridge mount. Meticulous material selection and combination led to the development and production of a tonearm with a more harmonious phase response, free from phase deviations. The absence of a finger lift on the headshell is no accident. This unique feature ensures that the tonearm is precisely balanced and prevents uncontrolled resonances from propagating in the cartridge head.
